La Cour aux Saveurs
It was the week before Easter or Paque as it is known in France, when I first visited this chocolate shop in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. La Cour aux Saveurs is an amazing artisanal chocolate shop . . . a veritable little treasure of a place in this vibrant village. The little shop was packed, and it was wonderful to see so many people buying real quality chocolate for Easter instead of the usual big name specialty easter eggs that get rolled out each year.
I was buying Easter chocolates for my grand-children hoping to get their tastebuds more interested in eating REAL chocolate. The shop is tiny however the huge choice of beautiful flavours had this ‘not a fan of chocolate’ girl trying all the little samples . . . and there are lots of samples laid out for tasting before you buy.
Chocolate Shop Flavours
I loved the ginger, citrus, tea, strawberry, crystallised rose petal, coconut chocolates best, however there is so much else available, some very special thin slabs with nuts and shiny gold leaf also caught my eye. There were also little samples of strawberry chocolate in thin slabs which I was told was ‘sugar free’ so better for diabetics. Great idea for those of us who need to ease up on the sugar intake. They are lower in calories than sugar and does not cause a spike in blood sugar levels.
Sugar-Free Chocolates
According to the website: “In the manufacture of these chocolates, cane sugar is replaced by maltitol. Maltitol, extracted from wheat or corn starch, is part of the polyol family. These sweeteners reduce glycaemia and insulinemia. Chocolate with maltitol is therefore recommended for diabetics. With a good taste, their use and flavour are identical to those of a classic chocolate.”
Check out also the little pots of different flavoured spreads for hot toast, or ‘à tartiner’ as they say in France. Among them, caramel chocolate, nut & cocoa, almond praline, pistachio amandes . . . delicious!
I also loved the citrus or ginger little sticks of fruit confit dipped in deep dark chocolate . . . and the big cherries dipped in chocolate . . . well . . . just try some!
You can also choose which ones you want to make up different sized gift boxes, which look so chic all wrapped up with their pretty gros-grain ribbon.
If you are in the area this is a special treat . . . check out La Cour aux Saveurs . . . this chocolate shop in L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue must be on your ‘todo’ list.
