One of my very favourite things to eat in France is a beautifully presented ‘plateau de fruits de mer’, with a nice cold dry bottle of white wine.

The Poissonnerie in Coustellet is a regular lunch place with friends just arrived in Marseille on the morning flight. When you had to wake up at 4:00AM to get the plane, a welcome platter of oysters, giant prawns, whelks, bread and butter, and a crisp dry bottle of white wine is what my friends crave. Then home for a little siesta, then full swing into life in Provence.

The Poissonnerie staff are always warm and friendly, and the fish bar inside is well-stocked too if you are looking to buy some fish/shellfish to take home and cook. Plus there is a small selection of ready cooked items to take-away. Eat in or take-away . . . they will half-open the oysters for you if requested.

Eat in or there are some tables outside if it is sunny.
